About the Marlborough Region

Marlborough is a fabulous lifestyle choice offering a treasure trove of natural resources, products and recreational options. In recent years Marlborough has become very popular as a place to work, play and live.

Situated on the fertile Wairau Plains, Marlborough is New Zealand's largest wine region, producing over 50% of New Zealand's wine and internationally famous for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc.

It is also home to the Green Shell mussel and other aquaculture industries and a very up-and-coming aviation industry.

Locals are very proud of the pristine Marlborough Sounds and regularly records the highest average sunshine hours in New Zealand!

Marlborough covers 17,517 square kms from the Nelson Ranges to the Kaikoura Coast, with a population of approx 42,400 people.

Blenheim is the commercial heart of the province with 26,000 people.  Picton is the Cook Strait's gateway to the South Island and has a population of approximately 4,000.

20 minutes by air or 3 hours by ferry to Wellington, Blenheim is also situated only 1.5 hours from Nelson and Kaikoura, 4 hours drive from Christchurch and 2 hours to the nearest ski field - a convenient base for work and play.
