Emma is a true local with both sides of her family living in Marlborough for generations. She grew up in Okaramio and her whakapapa is to several local iwi, including Te Ātiawa o Te Waka‑a‑Māui, Rangitāne ki Wairau, Ngāti Apa ki Te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Kai Tahu.
She returned to Marlborough in 2016 as a solicitor and joined Gascoigne Wicks. In April 2026, Emma was appointed a Partner of the firm in our Litigation team. She heads our family and employment law practice, and practices in general civil litigation.
During her time at this firm, she has obtained successful outcomes- mostly as lead counsel - in a 5-month trial in the Auckland High Court, on multiple occasions at the Court of Appeal, and most recently in the Supreme Court in Sirpa EliseAlalääkkölä v Paul Anthony Palmer SC 22/2024 (alongside Quentin Davies).
Emma can assist with all aspects of family law including relationship property, adoption, care of children matters, family violence, and applications to the Court regarding Enduring Powers of Attorney, Property Managers, and Welfare Guardians.
Credit to this busy wahine, she also had two children since arriving back to Marlborough. After hours, she enjoys spending time with her husband, children, wider whanau and friends. She is also passionate about getting involved in the community and helping the less fortunate, volunteering with local community organisations. She has a passion for reading and is interested in the arts, attending the opera, ballet and classical theatre.
